TAKLONG ISLAND NATION MARINE RESERVE

If you want to go off the grid, then the Taklong Island National Marine Reserve or TINMR is the place for you. The caveat though, temporarily the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the local government of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras temporarily suspended overnight stays around the facility unless you stay and is approved to stay overnight at the marine biological station of the University of the Philippines on the other side.

TINMR considered as the Jewel of Guinaras is composed of two main islands and 37 smaller islands. It is called the South Point Islands with great limestone rock formations, numerous coves with white sands and sand bars. Located in Brgys. Lapaz and San Roque, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras the two main islands are Taklong and Tandog.

Going to Taklong is a five-minute motorized boat ride. One can bring their own food, go swimming, snorkeling or just lay on the white sand for relaxation. The water is almost crystal clear. Most recently, a view deck has been constructed at the facility where guests can climb and see the South Point Islands 360 degrees. The facility has a gazebo, eco-trail and a conference room.  Also, guests can request the boatman for a tour around the mangrove trail in the area or bring them to the floating cottage where go swimming in the shallow portion of the sea.

Since it is a national marine reserve, fishing is strictly prohibited in the area of TINMR.
