Located in Barangay Dolores, town of Dumalag, Capiz, the Suhot Cave and Cold Spring which is located at the foot of the Pangin-raon Mountain is 18 kilometers long and is considered as one of the longest caves in the country. Though only a few kilometers have been explored in recent years, the cave is believed to extend one of its channels to Badiang Cave in the nearby town of Dumarao. In the early days, it is said that a few locals have tried walking through it and they reached Dumarao after seven days. It is believed that one of its channels branches to several other directions and lengths that no one has ever explored. Some of those who were able to reach the inner area of the cave claims to have seen a lot of human-like formations of stalactites and stalagmites. To date, amateurs and professional spelunkers are attempting to unravel the complex beauty that is inside.
Historically, the cave was used as a makeshift hospital during the Japanese Occupation where the locals treat wounded Filipino soldiers.
Suhot Cave and Cold Spring has a huge part in the local culture and folklore of the Capizeños. Albularyos troop the cave during Holy Week and would stay inside and drink the water coming out of the rocks. It is said that the cave and its water possess some kind of energy that revives their healing powers.
Today, with the help of the local tourism authorities, overnight and day-tour facilities were constructed to accommodate the visitors coming from all over the region. Accommodations are available for families and groups who wish to stay overnight. There are also nipa huts available for those who want to simply take a swim and dive at its cold spring water swimming area and grill some meat and fish for lunch. Guests can also ask the friendly local government personnel on duty to facilitate cooking for their food with a minimal and affordable fee. Food are also available at the canteen. The local government of Dumalag charges a very minimal entrance fee for the destination.
Suhot Cave and Cold Spring is approximately 35 kilometers from Roxas City and a 2-hour bus ride from Iloilo City.
