JANIUAY WEAVERS

Iloilo’s abaca industry has evolved from merely farming for raw material into production of value adding industries. Such is the case of the town of Janiuay that has gained a name in producing world class value adding materials made of abaca.

The Tuburan Abaca Handicraft Association or TAHA in Brgy. Tuburan is an organization of families, note not just women that is registered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and is engaged in producing bags, lampshades, placemats, purses and hats among others.

Their designs gained international traction and patronage after some national government officials and foreigners frequented their displays. Today, most of their products are made to order projects for countries like the United Kingdom and Germany.

One can simply visit their display and production area in Brgy. Tuburan by coordinating with the local tourism authorities or by merely going straight to them.
