The sweetest and the best tasting mangoes are found in Guimaras and no one can deny such as the pride of Guimarasnons have been tested and tasted around the world. Each time Guimaras is mentioned wherever you are, the sweet mangoes almost instantaneously come mind.
It did not come overnight though. The well protected best tasting taste of Guimaras mangoes is a product of a continuing effort of research and field work of both the farmers and the Bureau of Plant Industry-Guimaras National Crop Research Development Production Support Center (BPI-GNCRDPSC) based in Brgy. San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.
Inside the facility, intensive mango industry study is being undertaken from pre-production to post-production including the identification of possible pests and problems that may arise and infect and affect the mangoes and the farmers. The result of their field works are then provided to the mango farmers for their guidance.
But of course the facility is not just about serious matters and laboratory and field works. The public can drop by anytime and learn about mango production and during Manggahan Festival, the center conducts their own free picking and mango-eat-all-you-can activities. It’s the center’s way of making people appreciate the value of mango research and study.
